Domestic applicants

For most programs, you can complete an easy, online application form. Applying only takes around 10 minutes and there is no fee for direct applications. You can upload all of your certified supporting documentation online.

If you wish to apply for one of the following programs, you will need to submit an application to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) by the applicable deadline.

If you are not an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, or the holder of an Australian Permanent Residency visa, you are able to apply directly through International Admissions.

Application closing dates

If you are applying directly to the University of Newcastle, please adhere to the application closing dates listed below. All required supporting documents must be received by these dates. Applications received after these dates will be considered for the next available intake:

*Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science:

Please note that applications for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science for Semester 1 2025 has a final closing date of 26 January 2025. However, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible to prepare for the competency exam. Please refer to for further information.

**Master of Nurse Practitioner

Applications for the Master of Nurse Practitioner for Trimester 1 2025 are now open. There will be multiple offer rounds with the final round closing on Sunday 5 January 2025. Please refer to for further information.

**Master of Teaching and Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary)

Applications for the Master of Teaching (Primary), Master of Teaching (Secondary) and Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) in 2025 close at midnight on:

  • 5 January 2025 for Trimester 1 for Master of Teaching (Primary), Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) and Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • 27 April 2025 for Trimester 2 for Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) and Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • 4 May 2025 for Trimester 2 for Master of Teaching (Primary).

Master of Clinical Psychology (Semester 1 2025) and Master of Professional Psychology (Semester 1 2025):

  • Applications for Semester 1 2025 are now closed. No late applications are accepted.
  • Offers will be released Saturday 14 December 2024.

It is recommended you submit your application a minimum of 12 weeks before your intended semester or trimester start date. Late applications may be considered for the next available intake. Visit our International How to Apply page for more details.

Recognition of prior learning

If you have additional qualifications or experience above what is required for admission, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL). This means you can complete your degree faster with less courses to complete. Different pathways are outlined on each degree page.

Preparing and submitting your application

To ensure that the process goes smoothly for you, please be sure to complete the following steps before applying:

  1. Review the program that you wish to apply for. Note the admission criteria, admission instructions, requirements & structure and any additional information listed.
  2. Review the program fees and costs.
  3. Prepare any necessary certified supporting documents for upload.
  4. If you are from a non-English-speaking background, you need to satisfy the University's English language requirements and ensure that you can provide evidence of your English proficiency if required.
  5. Click the '' button below.
  6. Complete each section of the form. You will need to provide information on personal and contact details, confirm your citizenship, give a summary of your previous study and /or work experience as well as confirm the type of study that you wish to complete. Please take the time to view the help points listed for many of the application questions.
  7. Based on the information that you provide, you will be required to upload supporting documentation prior to submitting your application.
  8. Upon submission of your online application, you will be notified by email that it has been received. Please keep this email for your records.

  10. Apply for a Unique Student Identifier (USI)- A USI is your individual education identifier. It is required that you obtain a USI in order to receive Commonwealth financial assistance and/or obtain your qualification. You will need to enter your USI before enrolling in courses through myHub. You can create a USI, or if you are unsure if you have one you can find it, by visiting
